From University of Hawaii College of Education web site: "In 1929, the TNS, which had outgrown its buildings on the side of Punchbowl, acquired land at the corner of University Avenue and Metcalf Street, and a building plus an annex were erected. A large campus with several buildings was planned for the site. However, in 1931, the legislature merged the TNS with the University, creating the Teachers College ... [in 1951] the Regents named the TC Building Wist Hall"

The Ludington estate, also known as Val Verde, Dias Felices, the Henry Dater house, and the Dr. Warren Austin home, was designed by the architect Bertram Grovenor Goodhue, constructed in 1918 and then purchased by Charles H. Ludington in 1924. His son, Wright Saltus Ludington (who inherited the estate in 1927 or 1930), engaged the landscape architect Lockwood de Forest to design the gardens in 1925. Retaining the geometry of Goodhue's design and much of the wilderness, Lockwood transformed the gardens over a period of twenty-three years.

It is a desert landscape similar in aesthetics to Badlands National Park. Rocks have been formed into canyons and towering formations by the wind. In this picture there is some low brush and several palm trees.

Two views of a coast horned lizard, a species of phrynosomatid lizard that are found from Baja California to Sacramento Valley. The lizard shoots high pressure streams of blood out of its eyes in defense. The lizard was photographed at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, a coastal state park in San Diego, California.
