"A Sea of Sand" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1934

Description:
The "A Sea of Sand" float was preceded by 4 thoroughbred Arabian horses and two camels, "ships of the desert." In addition to its title, the float also bears the floral sign "The Dessert Playground." A woman in a bathing suit stands on the float, braving the rain. The float was entered by the city of Palm Springs. The float is seen is seen passing the Goodhue Flagpole in the center of the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

Description:
Pasadena Clearinghouse float with cornupocias spilling flowers and the word "Banks" written in flowers on the side. Two girls can be seen ringing New Years bells with the hat of a third girl just visible. The float is probably near the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

Sherman Institute float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1928

Description:
Float sponsored by the Sherman Institute, an off-reservation boarding school for Native American students. Now called the Sherman Indian High School, it opened in 1892 as the Perris Indian School and later changed its name to the Sherman Institute. On the right are four Native American students beside a decorative tepee. On the left are four Native American students dressed to represent trades taught at the school, with one young woman dressed as a nurse and one young man wearing a smock. Students identified in the newspaper article include Charles Bautista, Adelia Brown, Pearl Beuis, Samuel Cachora, Adolph Sambo Pahvitse, Elsie Sasalque, and Jose Tajete. The float is at the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard. 1927 was the first year the Rose Parade had a theme, "Songs in Flowers," with each float typifying a song. Margie Middleton and Ruth Sexton, riders on the "Vase of Flowers" float, pose in costume in front of a float, probably before the start of the parade. Photograph appears in "PASADENA'S 38th ANNUAL ROSE TOURNAMENT," Los Angeles Times, 02 Jan. 1927: 27.

"Celestial Dragon" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1935

Description:
The "Celestial Dragon" float features a floral dragon on a stairway, coiled around a pagoda. A float rider in a Chinese dress and lovely headdress is visible (Violet Leong or Midred Ginn). The float was designed by E. M. Pitzer and was entered by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and was photographed at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

"California Poppies" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1935

Description:
Milk flows from a large tilted bottle tended by a milk maid (Dorothy Bowster) on the "California Poppies" float entered by the Golden State Milk Co. The milk bottle rests on a large poppy. Float riders are seated in large poppies on the front of the float and another rider is seated on a throne behind the milk bottle. The float riders are: Sue Ann Eschmeyer, Anniece Achieris, Maxine Bennett, May Jane Bowser and Joan Davids. The float was photographed at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.
