Actress Berta Singerman seated on a sofa, 1934

Description:
Berta Singerman was born in the Russian town of Mozir in 1901 and grew up in Argentina. Her father founded Buenos Aires’ first Yiddish-language theater. Singerman was a major star on the Argentinean stage from the 1920s and she toured for decades throughout Latin America, and also appeared onstage in the United States, Europe, and Israel. She also made three movies including the silent film La Vendedora de Harrod’s / Harrod’s Salesgirl (1921), the melodrama Nada más que una mujer / Nothing More Than a Woman (1934), one of the Spanish-language versions of Hollywood films made for export in the 1930s, and one of the four-episode anthology dramas Ceniza al viento / Ashes in the Wind (1942). Singerman was particularly renowned for her poetry recitations, including works by Pablo Neruda, Federico García Lorca, and Juan Ramón Jiménez.

"Bellerophon & the Chimera" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1935

Description:
View of the float rendering the myth of Bellerophon slaying the Chimera, at the front, with Pegasus looking on from a hill, with 2 visible maidens in gowns seated against a sunrise and the back of the float (Lydette Everard, Georgette Blanc and Carol Glass were on the float). The float was entered by the General Petroleum Corporation and was photographed at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd. with the Goodhue Flagpole on the far right.

"Venus" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1935

Description:
Birdeseye view of the Long Beach float with Venus, Virginia Johnson, in a sunburst throne with her attendants, Joan Slaughter, Margaret Burley, Mary Lou Turner and Gladys McCleary, dressed in Grecian robes in pastel shades.
