ANSWER: West. That's the way you were looking in the photo from the City Hall tower. That's the roof of the Hall of Records in the foreground. Over at the left is the Law Building and steel structure for the new County Courthouse. Beyond Temple St. at the right it the four-level interchange of the freeways and, way at the left, Beverly Blvd. goes over Belmont Hill. Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills are out there in the haze somewhere.

ANSWER: There were a million landmarks to tell you that the camera was pointed north from the City Hall tower. In the foreground are the top of the Federal Building and the Hollywood-Santa Ana Freeway. Off to the right are the clump of trees that is the Plaza and beyond it the Post Office Terminal Annex. At the extreme left N Broadway heads toward the tree-covered hills of Elysian Park.

ANSWER: Shown in the photo is the entrance to the old Bimini Hot Springs and Bath. Situated at 180 Bimini Place, just east of Vermont Ave., "Bimini" enjoyed years of great popularity as a health spot-- had mineral baths, steam baths and no less than three swimming pools.

ANSWER: It probably wasn't fair to show such a small portion of the place, but this is the Children's Home Society of California, a licensed adoption agency at 3100 W Adams Blvd. But, the portion that was pictured should have been readily recognized because it faces the busy intersection of W Adams Blvd. and Arlington Ave.

ANSWER: Framed in stately palms by the camera is the tower of the old and abandoned Los Angeles Orphanage at 917 S Boyle Ave. Operated by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, this home for girls was opened in 1890 and in use until 1953 when it was finally closed and a new home, called Maryvale, was opened in South San Gabriel.

ANSWER: This is the delightfully unique Church of the Vedanta, the world's oldest philosophical and religious order. Located in its own little square at 1926 Vedanta Place and surrounded by dormitories for students of the Vedas, it is on a hill that overlooked Hollywood -- until the freeway zoomed practically past its front steps. Built in 1938, it was unseen by many until the freeway passed. And many of those who speed by did not know about this unique temple-- until now.
