Description:
Fidel La Barba, smiles directly at the camera while sitting at a desk with a typewriter and documents. He wears glasses, a tie, and sport jacket. Behind him is a window with the blinds closed. La Barba was a former championship fighter, who upon retirement, attended Stanford and received journalism degree. He became a sportswriter and eventually became a boxing advisor for Hollywood films. He wrote the related article and describes the grim reality of being a boxer.

Priscilla Lawson, in long satin robe with train, self-fabric belt, and fur trim at sleeves, collar, and hood. The location of this photograph may be the roof terrace of the Los Angeles Times Building. The fashion show took place in the Los Angeles Times building (competed in 1935 and located at 202 West 1st Street) most likely inside what is now the Harry Chandler Auditorium.

Old Los Angeles Times Building being prepared for demolition, Los Angeles, 1938

Description:
View from Broadway facing southwest towards First St. The old Los Angeles Times building and the adjacent building on the same block are being prepared for the May 1938 demolition. There is scaffolding around the base of both buildings. A sign on the adjacent building reads: "Being Wrecked by LA Wrecking Co. Inc., 810 E. 9th ... VA5135." A man on the 3rd floor of the adjacent building is handing wooden beams to a man on top of the scaffolding, who hands them to a man on the flatbed of a truck parked next to the scaffolding. A painted sign on the Times building reads: "Los Angeles Times, Largest Home Delivered Circulation on the Pacific Coast." The clock tower with its neon "Times" sign is visible above the roof line of the adjacent building. Old signs on the adjacent build read: "Double Cola," and "Old Mis[sion]."

Betty Wang, Journalist, Los Angeles, 1934

Description:
Betty Wang (her Americanized name) was a Chinese journalist who graduated from Shanghai University, worked as a reporter for a daily Chinese newspaper before attending the University of Southern California as a graduate student in journalism in 1933-1934. While in Los Angeles she became a member of the Theta Sigma Phi national honorary and professional journalism sorority and worked as a technical expert on "The Good Earth" at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer; she appears in Harry Carr's "Lancer" feature 3 times. In 1934 she became editor of the women's page editor of the China Press newspaper in Shanghai in 1934. Ms. Wang published 2 articles in the Los Angeles Times: Ms. Wang published 2 articles in the Los Angeles Times: "We China Dolls are Free!" 6/3/1934" and "Mass Marriage in Shanghai" 11/24/1935.
