Description:
This is a picture taken at the historic El Mirador Hotel in Palm Springs, regarded one of the finest luxury hotels of its time. The hotel had a famous Olympic-size swimming pool that had five diving boards, an underwater window on the pool for use by photographers, and a pool observation platform. In this picture, we see a young woman posing for the photograph in the foreground, and we can see two of the diving boards in the background.

Description:
Photograph of two palm trees atop the Palisades Cliffs. Beyond the trees at left, a portion of the cliff face and rustic eucalyptus branch fence can be viewed. View looks south toward a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway (California Highway 1), with cars lining the road and parked in lots near what are presumably beach homes, clubs and businesses. These structures follow along the Highway and beach- the beach populated by crowds on the sand and in the water. At center sits the Santa Monica Pier and Yacht Harbor, partially obscured by the palm tree at right. Beyond the pier, the coastline continues into the distance. Photographed at the foot of Montana Avenue, above the Sorrento Beach Club.

Description:
The Hotel Windemere was located at 1431 Ocean Ave. Built in 1909, it was demolished in 1962. John Lindsay, a southern California architect, owned the building from at least 1954 until its demolition. According to newspaper reports from 1954 to 1956, he and Jane Wooster Scott were a couple.

Description:
Image of two couples dressed in Persian attire. One man stands and speaks while the others sit low to the floor and listen. Both men wear elaborate turbans (one with a plumed turban, the other bejeweled). They wear long embroidered khalats (robes) over stripped sirwals (baggy trousers), and curled-toe slippers. Both women wear shear veils, but the woman on the left appears to be wearing a skirt or dress, while the woman on the right wears a beaded blouse with harem pants and gold-tone sandals. Swaths of fabric are seen strewn on the floor surrounding the group. Several potted plants complete the setting. In the background, the room’s walls are covered in tufted fabric. Photographed in a room at the Del Mar Club, Santa Monica.

The tin toy, by Marx, is "Tidy Tim," identified by the inscription on trash bin, which also includes the inscriptions "D.S.C" and "Keep your City Spick & Span Says Tidy Tim the Clean-up Man" (seen online). Online examples of this toy are dated from 1933 into the 1950's.

Description:
The Children's Home Society of California is a non-profit child welfare agency founded in 1891. It became the first licensed child placement agency in California in 1911. It was located at 919 E. 25th St. from the 1920's up to 1942, when the organization moved to the Ozro W. Childs mansion at 3100 W. Adams Blvd. where it remained until 1977.
