Photograph of 2 boys seated at a table making sandwiches at the Children's Home Society. The boy on the left is opening a jar with a home-made label reading "Jam." The boy on the right holds a slice of bread lifted from a stack of bread slices on a plate on the table in front of him next to a loaf of bread and a knife. The label on the loaf of bread reads "Honey Kurl Wheat Bread," and the top of the jam jar is labeled "Kraft..."
The Children's Home Society of California is a non-profit child welfare agency founded in 1891. It became the first licensed child placement agency in California in 1911. It was located at 919 E. 25th St. from the 1920's up to 1942, when the organization moved to the Ozro W. Childs mansion at 3100 W. Adams Blvd. where it remained until 1977.
