- Text from negative sleeve: Grand Canyon trip, May 1942. We drove along the canyon to the end of the north road. Beautiful turn outs to view the canyon. Here is one. The toilet at Hermit's Rest. Mertie West.At extreme right may be seen a big bell under an arch. A boy standing there took a rock and hammered the bell, making a terrific racket. Hermit's Rest, extreme west end of the roadIts a big cave. Returning, we stopped at the Hopi House to look at the Indian blankets, and curios. Mertie walking across to the entrance. 4 negatives.
