Stock Exchange." The group includes, L to R: Robert L. Stott, a governor of the exchange; McClarty Harbison, president of the local mart; Jacob C. Stone; Maurice L. Farrell, chairman of the committee on public relations; Darrell J. Bogardus; Charles R. Gay, president of the New York Stock Exchange; Richard H. Gordon; and James W. Elliott.

Astronomer Dr. Mars Baumgardt, Los Angeles, 1939

Description:
This image appears with the article "Four Named to Park Body: Mayor Presents His Nominations to City Council," Los Angeles Times, 6 Apr. 1939: 10. Dr. Mars Frederick Baumgardt was an optometrist and science lecturer. He served as president of the Southern California Academy of Science and of the Astronomical Society. He was also a director of the Clark Observatory, member of the Nature Club of Southern California, a State fire warden, and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society of Great Britain.

Arthur B. Dodge, art director of the Los Angeles Times, 1936

Description:
Arthur Burnside Dodge was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and his family moved to California in 1864. For ten they lived in Grass Valley, then settled in San Francisco. There he began his career as a wood engraver at age 18 and spent five years in New York City studying art. Upon returning to San Francisco, he was an illustrator for local newspapers from 1890 until 1901. He then moved to Los Angeles where he continued newspaper work. After four years at the Morning Herald, he spent 42 years as art director at the Los Angeles Times. Known as "Boss" to his friends, he died in Los Angeles in 1952.

Army Air Corps Colonel H. H. Arnold, Los Angeles, circa 1920

Description:
Henry Harley "Hap" Arnold became an American General holding the ranks of General of the Army and General of the Air Force. Arnold was also the founder of Project RAND, which evolved into one of the world's largest non-profit global policy think tanks, the RAND Corporation, and one of the founders of Pan American World Airways. In the 1930s, he was the Commander of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
