"A Sea of Sand" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1934

Description:
The "A Sea of Sand" float was preceded by 4 thoroughbred Arabian horses and two camels, "ships of the desert." In addition to its title, the float also bears the floral sign "The Dessert Playground." A woman in a bathing suit stands on the float, braving the rain. The float was entered by the city of Palm Springs. The float is seen is seen passing the Goodhue Flagpole in the center of the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

Pasadena Clearinghouse float with cornupocias spilling flowers and the word "Banks" written in flowers on the side. Two girls can be seen ringing New Years bells with the hat of a third girl just visible. The float is probably near the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

"Dawn" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1934

Description:
"Dawn" float with 4 white horses in flowers drawing a golden chariot driven by Apollo, portrayed by Warren Jones. Behind Apollo is a representation of the dawn with a rising sun on Mount Olympus. The Pasadena Memorial Flagpole (Goodhue Flagpole) is visible behind the float in its original location in the middle of the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard. The float was entered by the Pasadena Water Department.

View of Santa Barbara's sweepstakes winning "Peacock" float with twins Marguerite and Mary Somerville reading fairy stories in a garden composed of 2 urns and a fountain at the front, mechanical peacocks and steps leading to a large peacock in the center, and classical structure with columns and more urns at the back. The float was photographed at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

Description:
Los Angeles Mayor John C. Porter bids farewell to group in 19th century costumes departing Los Angeles in a stagecoach for the 2-day journey to the Old Spanish Days Fiesta in Santa Barbara, where they were to participate in the parade and deliver an invitation to the Los Angeles World Congress of Rough Riders and Rodeo. The group includes: (front, L to R) Hilton McCabe, Francis Josef Hickson (stage actor), Marion Parks (California history advocate), John C. Porter, Thomas Workman Temple (early California family member), (in coach, L to R) Miss Irene Tillinghast (of the Los Angeles Museum of History and Science), Orpha Klinker (California artist), (on top) Jose Arias, left, and his celebrated Mexican orchestra (Jose Arias Troubadours) holding guitars and possibly a mandolin, with driver Buster Trow (silent Westerns actor). "U.S. Mail" and "Louisville and..." are painted on the stagecoach.
