"Firebird" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1935

Description:
The float of the Rose Parade Queen, Muriel Cowan, features a large Russian Firebird composed of yellow chrysanthemums and lavender sweet peas at the front and three Russian mosques with domes covered in yellow pompoms at the back, behind the queen's throne. The queen is accompanied by six attendants (Dorothy Bruce, Emily Bettainer, Lynn Smith, Shirley Chamberlain, Catherine Butler and Lucille Spelts) and three outwalkers in gowns and veils are also visible. The float was photographed at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

"Old Ironsides" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1934

Description:
The "Old Ironsides" float was a floral replica of the historic frigate of the American navy. The Pasadena Memorial Flagpole (Goodhue Flagpole) is visible behind the float in its original location in the middle of the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard. The float was entered by the city of San Diego.

"Orange is King" float with an enthroned orange king and 2 heralds, pulled by a train engine with the date of the National Orange Show in San Bernardino on the side "Feb. 13-29." Gordon Elliott is the king and Nancy Caswell and Alta Faulkner are the heralds. The float is at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Orange Grove Blvd.

A huge peacock heads the float, with a fountain in the center supporting 2 green cockatoos with orchid tails. The float was photographerd at the intersection of Orange Grove. Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.
