Toddler Richard Burt was burnt after sticking a cartridge in the family car's socket, Los Angeles, 1935

Description:
When baby Richard Burt was left alone in the car to play he found one of his father's .22 caliber cartridges in the side-pocket of the car and pushed the cartridge against the electrical contact points in the empty dash-light socket, which caused it to explode, but only injuring Richard's finger with some powder burns. The bullet from the shell had been melted.

Test of a plan proposed to speed up peak-hour traffic on Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, March 1940

Description:
Test of a "streamlined" traffic plan proposed by street traffic engineer Ralph Dorsey for peak-hour traffic on Wilshire Boulevard. The plan included an off-set center lane and no left turns during peak times, the changes would affect Wilshire Blvd, Flower, Figueroa, and 8th streets. After much debate, the plan was eventually rejected by the City Council.

The track and field of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum are viewed from the stands. The curve of the track passes across the bottom edge. Spectators sit in the stands lining the track in the lower left corner. Dozens of police vehicles line the inside curb of the track and face out towards camera. They follow the turn of the track from left and towards the right, extending out-of-frame. Farther back, the field stretches back through the stadium. Along the near edge of the field, four men stand with flags. Behind them, police officers stand in formation on the field. One of the track's straight-a ways lines the left edge of the field. At the far left side of the track, more people file through a tunnel and onto the track. Stands line the perimeter of the stadium as they stretch across the background.
