Description:
An out-of-focus photograph of visitors to Catalina Island disembarking their boat upon their arrival in Avalon. Several people walk past the camera and to the left in the foreground. Beneath them, the wharf stretches back towards the mid-ground as it passes across the image. At the far edge of the wharf, a ship is moored. It sits in partial view and is viewed from the side; it extends beyond the left and right edges. Three decks of the ship are in view. From the enclosed middle deck at center, a gangplank descends from the ship down to the dock. Dozens of people walk down the gangplank and towards the camera. Above them, the open upper deck stretches across the image. A few people are visible on the upper deck.

The Children's Home Society of California is a non-profit child welfare agency founded in 1891. It became the first licensed child placement agency in California in 1911. It was located at 919 E. 25th St. from the 1920's up to 1942, when the organization moved to the Ozro W. Childs mansion at 3100 W. Adams Blvd. where it remained until 1977.

H. and Mertie West on North Ridgewood Place. The Wests lived at 830 North Ridgewood Place and the Bacons, Newquists and Robinsons lived at 836, 832 1/2 and 832 North Ridgewood Place, respectively.
