Track star Otto Anderson in U.S.C. track tank top, Los Angeles, 1922-1926

Description:
Otto Anderson began his athletics career as a hurdler while at Pomona High School. In 1920, he qualified for the Antwerp Olympics. He attended U.S.C beginning in 1922, playing football and adding more track and field events to his repertoire. He qualified for and traveled to Paris for the 1924 Olympics, but injured himself there practicing for the pole vault event. Upon his return he acted as track team captain at U.S.C. Reported on in "An Intimate Impression of Otto Anderson," Los Angeles Times, 14 Mar. 1922: III1; "Otto Anderson Hurt; Daggs Is a Sure Winner," Los Angeles Times, 14 Feb. 1923: III1; and "Otto Anderson Is Back from Paris," Los Angeles Times, 1 Aug. 1924: B3.

Description:
This image appears with article "Printing Official to Retire: Senaca Beach Tomorrow Steps Down from Job in Open-Shop Organization," Los Angeles Times, 30 Sep. 1929: A6. Senaca C. Beach began his long career in printing and publishing in Oregon. He served in county government in Oregon as well as organizing for printers' unions nationally. In 1905, he was persuaded by Los Angeles-based printers to perfect a trade organization in Los Angeles. He moved to California and helped organize the Printing Board of Trade. He long served as executive secretary of the organization, a division of the Merchants' and Manufacturers' Association.

Portrait of Estelle De Broglie, United States (?), circa 1926

Description:
Estelle Alexander, an American from San Francisco, married French aristocrat François Marie Constant Amédée Robert de Broglie (known as Prince Robert de Broglie) in the early 1900s, after which she was known as (Princess) Estelle de Broglie. They had a daughter, Jassemonde Estelle Siglinde de Broglie. According to newspaper accounts, they gave concerts, with Estelle, a soprano, singing, and Robert conducting the orchestra. The marriage was eventually annulled. Estelle continued to live in France and visited the United States in 1929 intending to regain U.S. citizenship. She died at Auschwitz in 1944, and is identified as "Estelle Alexander 1872" on the Mémorial de la Shoah (Shoah Memorial) in Paris. In documents, her name is sometimes given as Estella Dolores Alexander.
