- Otto Anderson began his athletics career as a hurdler while at Pomona High School. In 1920, he qualified for the Antwerp Olympics. He attended U.S.C beginning in 1922, playing football and adding more track and field events to his repertoire. He qualified for and traveled to Paris for the 1924 Olympics, but injured himself there practicing for the pole vault event. Upon his return he acted as track team captain at U.S.C.
