The Griffith Observatory was created using a design developed by architects John C. Austin and Frederick M. Ashley based on preliminary sketches by Russell W. Porter.
William Frederickson Jr. was general manager of Los Angeles Dept. of Recreation and Parks. Dr. C.H. Cleminshaw was director of Griffith Observatory. The projector was built by the German company Carl Zeiss.
