Distant photograph of Will Witherby and his fellow passengers boarding a plane bound for Chicago at Los Angeles Airport. A chain-link fence, lined by a tarp, stretches across the foreground on an upward angle from left to right. Beyond it, the airport's grounds sprawl into the distance. A few fenced-in gates stand in the near distance along the left edge. To the right of the gates, a luggage cart sits on the tarmac. Behind the cart, a mobile staircase stands. At right, the left wing and fuselage of a plane enters frame and faces away from camera. A few workers stand beneath it. In the distance at center, Will Witherby and others stand at the base of aircraft steps leading up to their plane. The equipment and planes are embellished with the Trans World Airlines logo, "TWA." The airport's runways are barely visible in the far distance. Wide, opaque bands of white originate in the lower left and lower right corners and extend upwards along their respective edges.

Handwritten notes on negative indicate that Beatrice Adee went from being Mrs. William T. Adee to just Mrs. Beatrice Adee. She divorced William T. Adee in May, 1935. Don Phillips, a young screenwriter, embraces her when she touches down from New York but both deny claims from the reporters in the photo that they are lovers.

ART GOEBEL, FLYING A LOCKHEED VEGA MONOPLANE ARRIVED AT MINES FIELD, LOS ANGELES JUST 23 HOURS AND 50 MINUTES FROM THE TIME HE LEFT ROOSEVELT FIELD, NEW YORK, AS AN ENTRY IN THE NON-STOP TRANS-CONTINENTAL AIR RACE. GOEBEL WAS FORCED TO LAND AT PHOENIX, ARIZ FOR GAS. TWO OTHER FLYERS, GEO. HALDEMAN AND LT. George Haldeman was an American aviator, who in 1928 participated in a transcontinental race from New York to Los Angeles. He was forced to land for oil in New Mexico. The end point of the air race George Haldeman participated in was Mines Field in Los Angeles. Mines Field would soon become what is now Los Angeles International Airport.
