"Rigoletto" cast members Charles Burton (possibly), Louis Statham and Laurin Malcolm, John Adams Auditorium, Santa Monica, 1951
- Description:
- Photograph of Santa Monica Civic Opera singers portraying Rigoletto, Sparafucile and Count Monterone from the opera, “Rigoletto.” The singer portraying Rigoletto (possibly Charles Burton) wears an embroidered velvet doublet with sunburst collar, padded to reveal the character’s hunched back. He holds a bauble (a mock scepter) in one hand. To his left, Louis Statham portrays the hired assassin Sparafucile, wearing a Romani (Gypsy) style outfit with a loose shirt and pants, vest and waist sash. The outfit is completed with a scarf tied around his head and an earring in one ear. Laurin Malcolm, in costume as Count Monterone, wears an embellished tunic with ruff collar and cuffs, belt and stockings. They are in front of a set background painted to look like ornate paneled walls from the Duke’s palace. Photo possibly taken at John Adams Auditorium, Santa Monica.
