Description:
View of the Ada E. Bowers Memorial Fountain in the courtyard of the Bowers Museum, with a statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, discoverer of California, and bas-relief scenes behind the statue and along the base of the fountain. To the left of Cabrillo is a rocky formation from which water issues. Behind Cabrillo are 3 scenes including Cabrillo and companions facing Indians on the sea shore with a ship in the ocean in the distance, a mission church, and Indians in a wooden carat (carretta) drawn by oxen. At the base are 8 bas-relief scenes apparently depicting episodes from the mission era and later settlement by ranchers and farmers. A plaque in the center bears the text "Mrs. Bowers Memorial Fountain."

Fremont first planted the U.S. Flag, the first church and old Mission bells, the first palm tree in California, the old grave yard with crumbling walls and faded wooden head boards, the Serra Cross of tile, Serra Free Museum, first brick house in Southern California, first olive press, and the world famous Ramona's marriage place.
