Five of the twenty-six Belgian draft horses being auctioned off by Los Angeles County at Los Angeles's Union Stock Yards. L.A. County's Board of Supervisors had assessed that the draft horses, though they had won many prizes and obtained national recognition, were too expensive to continue to care for. The twenty-six horses netted $11,367.50 at auction.

Description:
From front to back, S. F. "Nick" Carter and J. V. Anderson, police officers, pose with unclaimed items up for auction at the semi-annual police auction. S. F. Carter sits in a wheelchair, off-center to the left. He plays a guitar and appears to sing. Directly behind him, J. V. Carter smiles to camera while holding onto a camera. Beside the officers, a large table enters frame at right and extends back towards center. It is cluttered with unclaimed property. Typewriters, vacuum cleaners, shoes, cameras, clocks and tennis rackets are some of the items that sit atop the table. Purses and a pair of ice skates hang above the table at right. Luggage sits in a stack beneath the table.

Description:
Three unidentified men are inspecting three cars available for auction in the Public Administrator's storeroom. Part of a fourth car can be seen on the far right. In the background, a wire fence can be seen. Leftmost car is a 1930-1932 Cadillac, with a goddess hood ornament. It is being looked at by a man in a light colored brimmed hat and short sleeved shirt. Middle car is a Pontiac, circa 1933, with a Chief hood ornament. It is being looked at by a man with glasses and a shirt with rolled up sleeves, no hat. The third car is a Ford V8, circa 1935, being looked at by a man with a brimmed hat, a pipe in his mouth, a vest, and a shirt with rolled up sleeves.

Jerry Wenger ad Hortense Harms show off auction wares from theater company, Los Angeles, 1935

Description:
A Deputy Marshall Jerry Wenger and Hortense Harms pose regally holding pieces of stage props. Wenger wears a helmet and carries various props such as a sword and shield. Harms carries a crown and costume. Other large objects, probably stage sets and props, are behind them against a brick wall. Harms was the former educational director of the Shakespeare Guild of America, of which she was also a financier. The theater company went defunct and this image depicts Harms with items the company put up for auction when it went under. Wenger led the auctioning off of the items. The event took place at 1701 South Hill Street.

Description:
Hersee Moody Carson next to a Vicente Palmaroli y González portrait painting of a woman standing on a terrace overlooking the sea, following the auction of art and decorative arts in her home, Castle Kalmia (at 1486 N. Sweetzer Ave. above Sunset Blvd.). Mrs. Carson was the widow of George Campbell Carson a prospector and inventor. The painting was awarded a medal at the Exposition Universal in Paris in 1867.
