Birdseye view down Main Street during construction to widen the street. The street is vacant of pedestrians and cars and there are five pedestrians on the sidewalks. There are three vacant lots where the buildings were demolished along the left side of the street. Signs on buildings on the right read: "U.S. Shoe Renewing Co., Carlson & Sons...," "New & Used Clothing, Cleaning, Pressing," Kolb's Grocery Delicatessen," The Minnesota Apts., Rooms, 1, 2, & 3 rooms, furnished 2925," "Crescent Apts, Rooms By Day, Week or Month," "Main Bargain," "Hardware," "Hawley...sewing machine..."

“Marriage of Figaro” production with Lou Ann Wyckoff, Roderick Risto, Pryor Bowen, and Robert Mahoney, Barnum Hall, Santa Monica, 1958

Description:
Santa Monica Civic Opera performance of Act 1 of “The Marriage of Figaro.” Figaro (portrayed by Roderick Risto) stands center and sings while Count Almaviva (singer Pryor Bowen), his page Cherubino (played by female singer Lou Ann Wyckoff), Don Basilio (Robert Mahoney) and several cast members portraying peasants listen. The aristocrats wear 18th century style attire – coats with deep cuffs, waistcoats (vests), breeches and stockings. Figaro wears a shirt with lace collar and cuffs. The peasant women wear full skirts with overskirts tied at the waist, peasant blouses covered with lace-up bodices, and caps covering their hair. The men wear coats, breeches and cravats. The setting is a sparsely furnished room in Count Almaviva’s palace, with ornately painted walls, an end table, chair and footstool. Balcony shot allows for views of the entire stage, musicians in and outside of the orchestra pit, and numerous audience members. Performed at Barnum Hall, Santa Monica.

Bird's-eye view of Santa Monica shoreline, with cliffs at left, Pacific Coast Highway and vehicles in foreground, Spanish-style building complex, with Jesse L. Lasky residence near center, and other buildings in midground, beach, ocean, and Santa Monica Pier in background. On the left side of the Pacific Coast Highway constructed against the cliff is a tall building with the sign "Sorrento Beach" painted on the side; this is probably the Gables hotel, which was never completed and was demolished in the 1970's.
