Description:
The Ludington estate, also known as Val Verde, Dias Felices, the Henry Dater house, and the Dr. Warren Austin home, was designed by the architect Bertram Grovenor Goodhue, constructed in 1918 and then purchased by Charles H. Ludington in 1924. His son, Wright Saltus Ludington (who inherited the estate in 1927 or 1930), engaged the landscape architect Lockwood de Forest to design the gardens in 1925. Retaining the geometry of Goodhue's design and much of the wilderness, Lockwood transformed the gardens over a period of twenty-three years.

It was once the summer residence of the Kings of Spain, now it is open to the public. This view shows a gradually declining staircase, lined with small plinths and a lion statue. The stairs lead to a pool and a small statue of several women perched on a rock. The main palace building is beyond the pool.

Three conical trees on a lawn in front of the ruins of St. John the Baptist's Church (later rebuilt adjacently) in Grosvenor Park in Chester, England on the River Dee. The park is in Victorian style and it has a Grade II ranking in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The conical trees are probably llex aquifolium (Lilly Gold English Holly).

Description:
Boy standing in a plaza with a fountain in the gardens at Casa del Rey Moro in Ronda, Spain. The gardens were designed by French landscape gardener, Jean Claude Forestier in 1912. Casa del Rey Moro was built in the 18th Century and features a Water Mine, a "secret" passage that enabled workers to bring water up to the house from the Guadelevin River below. The passage goes through many chambers, including the "Room of Secrets."

Description:
Inset map shows Reseda Boulevard intersecting with Sunset Boulevard. According to Los Angeles Times, March 20, 1998, "Crossroads of Confusion," a plan to extend Reseda to Sunset and the Santa Monica area began in the 1920s and was scrapped in 1977. Some city maps incorrectly show an intersection between Reseda and Sunset.

Cutting garden for Dr. and Mrs. P. G. White residence, Los Angeles, 1933-1938

Description:
Below the landscaping plan there is also a distant perspective view of the cutting garden. The house on the property was probably designed by the architecture firm of Webber, Stanton and Spaulding. It was constructed in 1927 by the firm Chisholm, Fortine & Meikle, Architecture, Engineering & Construction. The house was featured in Architectural Digest in 1928. The date for the cutting garden is from the nitrate negative sleeves for the photographic images.
