Field book Arnold 1
- Description:
Con la visita del pueblo Tipi de Gales a la casa de Juan de Dios Yapita en La Paz, ambos hicimos traducciones al aymara de algunas canciones populares de tipo New Age cantadas en esos años, entre ellas 'The River is Flowing'.<br>ENGLISH: Field book Arnold 1, dating from April to June 1985, consists of early field notes made by Denise Y. Arnold while learning Aymara language in ILCA in La Paz, and from early field visits to communities around Lake Titicaca, and journeys to Sorata, Oruro and the North of Potosí, all in Bolivia. There are notes from Aymara classes, of Aymara terminology, verbs and dialogues to learn, and efforts to make sentences. Many Aymara folktales from the lakeside region in the La Paz variant of Aymara are transcribed in this learning process, and then translated into Spanish. These are not based on transcriptions of audio cassettes, but on existing publications. The Field book also includes analyses of these folktales and reflections about their meaning including cosmological diagrams. In addition there are notes on participation in rituals, and on classes attended in La Paz about botany and acupuncture. With the visit by the Tipi people from Wales to Juan de Dios Yapita's house in La Paz, we both made translations into Aymara of some popular New Age songs sung in those year, including 'The River is Flowing.'
