- Miss Cherrie Armour, daughter of an oil company executive, who faced many legal woes in 1940. In January she went to court to try to stop her ex-husband James Monroe Jefferson from reducing her alimony payments. In September she was sentenced to a year in county jail and forced to pay a settlement to Jean and Josephine Rose for injuring them in a hit-and-run car accident, during which Armour was under the influence of alcohol.
