Stories of Hope

Ginny Hansen

Jan 2001 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and went through chemotherapy and extensive radiation, following the recommendations of a study. One year later however, I relapsed and was not responding very well to chemotherapy as I had before. My oncologist suggested a stem cell transplant to my horror, but I was willing to do what it took to live. I had my autolugus transplant (using my own stemcells) on 12/5/02 and the nurses all wished me "Happy Birthday" because I had been reborn. In the picture I am standing on the beach in Cancun celebrating "Life" one year after transplant. I believe I was reborn, I received the greatest gift of all, the opportunity to live. I hope others will be as fortunate as I have been. We need further research so many others can benefit from stem cell research.    We need Proposition 71.
