From University of Hawaii College of Education web site: "In 1929, the TNS, which had outgrown its buildings on the side of Punchbowl, acquired land at the corner of University Avenue and Metcalf Street, and a building plus an annex were erected. A large campus with several buildings was planned for the site. However, in 1931, the legislature merged the TNS with the University, creating the Teachers College ... [in 1951] the Regents named the TC Building Wist Hall"
The estate was created in 1929-1930. The architect of the house was Addison C. Mizner and the gardens were designed by Lockwood De Forest. Named Casa Bienvenida by its first owner, Alfred E. Dieterich, the estate is currently known as Park Lane.
Below the landscaping plan there is also a distant perspective view of the cutting garden. The house on the property was probably designed by the architecture firm of Webber, Stanton and Spaulding. It was constructed in 1927 by the firm Chisholm, Fortine & Meikle, Architecture, Engineering & Construction. The house was featured in Architectural Digest in 1928. The date for the cutting garden is from the nitrate negative sleeves for the photographic images.
