Fred Sexton was an unknown LA painter until this painting and his other one, The Portrait (No. 7), debuted on December 1st at Stendahl Galleries. He received training in Paris. This painting is a still life of sunflowers in a vase.
This biography from the Archives of AskART: Born in England on April 9, 1862. Cannon was educated in London and worked there as a designer for gold and silversmiths. He worked in NYC for several years before settling in Los Angeles about 1906. In 1912 he established the Cannon Art School in Los Angeles and taught there until 1933. He died in Redondo Beach, CA on Feb. 5, 1939. Member: Commercial Artists Ass'n of So. Calif.; Free Lance Art League of LA (co-founder and vice pres., 1918).
