This is a picture of the historic Santa Monica City Hall while it was under construction. The building is still surrounded by scaffolding, and two workers can be seen painting the facade in the foreground of the picture. The words "Cuty Hall" have already been etched into the entrance of the building. Santa Monica City Hall's period of significance was considered to be from 1938-1951. It was built in the famous depression-era style, PWA (Public Works Administration) Moderne, which was a combination of the Art deco and Art mdoerne styles of architecture. This type of architecture was most often used in buildings financed by the federal government.
