Description:: Located in the Calico Mountains of the Mojave Desert, the town of Calico was the largest silver mining camp in California. The mine operated from 1881 until it was abandoned in 1896. The town remained largely deserted but for a few who remained until the end of borax mining in the region in 1907. Today, Calico is a State Historic Landmark (#782), and is a designated San Bernardino County Regional Park.
