Description:
Main entrance to Ketchaoua Mosque in Algiers. At the entrance, 29 steps lead up to a marble portico, with an octagonal minaret on each side (though only one is visible here). The Mosque is located at the foot of the Casbah, facing the Mediterranean Sea. Between 1845 and 1962, under French rule, the Mosque was converted into the Cathedral of St. Philippe, but was then converted back.

Description:
Two conical trees on a lawn in front of the ruins of St. John the Baptist's Church (later rebuilt adjacently) in Grosvenor Park in Chester, England on the River Dee. The park is in Victorian style and it has a Grade II ranking in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The conical trees are probably llex aquifolium (Lilly Gold English Holly).

Completed in 1920, the estate was destroyed by a forest fire in 1940. A note on photo ark no. 21198/zz00090mkj states that the architect was Carleton Winslow. Charles G. Adams was the consulting architect for planting only (Architect and engineer, vol. 78-79, July-Dec. 1924).

The New Court at St. John's College, view of the cloister and gateway, Cambridge, England, 1929

Description:
The New Court building at St. John's College, a constituent of the University of Cambridge. The New Court was designed by Thomas Rickman and Henry Hutchinson and built between 1826 and 1831. It is in the Gothic Style with battlements, pinnacles, and a cloister and gateway across one side (viewed here). The New Court's central tower has four blank clock-faces. There are several legends about why the clocks are faceless, including the suggestion that Henry Hutchinson asked that they remain that way so that the building would not lose its symmetry.

Two pictures of the La Mission La Purísima Concepción ruins, Lompoc, 1930

Description:
The ruins of Mission La Purísima Concepción, or La Purisima Mission. The original mission was damaged in 1812 by an earthquake and rebuilt in a new location. These buildings were then abadoned in 1843 and fell mostly into disrepair until December 7, 1941, the day of the fully restored mission's dedication.

Roberta Smythe, Aimee Semple McPherson, and Rheba Crawford Splivalo celebrate the 25th anniversary of McPherson's work in ministry. The celebration included a parade that ended at the City Hall steps where McPherson greeted approximately 5000 people and the Mayor. Aimee Semple McPherson was a Los Angeles evangelist in the 1920s and 1930s who founded the Foursquare Church and Angelus Temple. Rheba Crawford Splivalo was associate pastor at Angelus Temple. Roberta Semple Smythe was the daughter of Aimee Semple McPherson.

Mr. Mayer spoke at the meeting saying, "this battle is not for greed or power, but for human good without distinction of race or creed" and acknowledged the presence of Rabbi Magnin and Bishop Stevens (among others) as a sign that we live in a "land where men of different faiths combine to aid humanity"

He offers his hand to Bishop Cantwell who is half-kneeling oppposite him. Using the powers vested in him by Pope Pius XI Cicognani presided over the ceremony, which took place at the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana in Los Angeles.

He was most likely testifying in his own defense for the murder trial of his wife Mary Emma James. He purportedly had an affair with his niece, which spurred him to tie down his wife and have a rattlesnake bite her, and then later drown her in their fish pond. He was supposedly helped by his friend, ex-sailor Charles H. Hope, who was also charged with murder.
