H. H. West, Jr. and 3 unidentified servicemen pose in front of their quarters, Dutch Harbor, 1943
- Description:
- An out-of-focus photograph of H. H. West, Jr. and 3 fellow servicemen standing in front of their quarters while stationed at Dutch Harbor during World War II. A walkway of wooden slats enters frame at left and stretches through the center of the image on an upward angle towards the right. It then extends back to the left towards the front door of the Quonset hut-style barracks. H. H. West, Jr. (rightmost) stands on the walkway leading up to barrack's door. He and another man stand side-by-side on the corner of the walkway at right. Both look to camera. Behind and to the left of them, 2 other men stand atop a step in front of the door to the barracks and look to the camera. The front of the Quonset hut stands behind them to the left. It is viewed at an angle from the front and the side; it faces right. Snow-covered mountains rise in the distance at center and right.
