Charles Gates Dawes was an American banker, general, diplomat, and Republican politician who was the 30th vice president of the United States during the Calvin Coolidge administration from 1925 to 1929. This photograph was likely taken during a visit to Los Angeles from September 11-15, 1925, where Dawes was advocating for changes in United States Senate procedures. He is pictured with local banker Henry M. Robinson who served on the Dawes Reparations Commission, and who hosted Dawes on his visit to Los Angeles.
While San Francisco Mayor James Rolph was traveling to Los Angeles he ran into actor and longtime friend Bill Hart on the train, where the men discovered that they both still use a boot jack to help remove their footwear.
Negative sleeve reads 1929, however calendar present in image is for March 1927. This date is also supported by the fact that Workman was in office as the City Council President from 1919-1927. He later ran for Mayor in 1929, but lost the election.
