Elizabeth West, Frances West, Irene Schmitz, Chester Schmitz and an unknown girl play with a pet monkey in camp, Warner Springs vicinity, about 1915
- Description:
- Photograph, from left to right, of Elizabeth West, Frances West, an unidentified girl, Irene Schmitz and Chester Schmitz gathered in a semi-circle and gazing at a pet monkey. A slim tree trunk rises in the near distance at center. In front of the tree, a small monkey walks across the ground toward Frances West; it is tethered to the tree by a long, narrow chain. The unknown girl at center stands, bent over, to the right of the tree. She faces left, towards the monkey, as she holds onto its chain. The Schmitz and West children stand on either side of her and look on. Elizabeth and Frances West stand to the left of the tree. Elizabeth leans forward towards the monkey and Frances appears to reach a hand out towards the animal. Irene and Chester Schmitz stand to the right of the girl. Chester stands slightly in front of Irene and Irene is slightly in front of the girl. Both Schmitz children face towards the left and look down at the monkey. The group stands in a clearing that stretches across the foreground. Behind them, trees extend into the distance.
