Dr. Walter Carter, entomologist, sits on a liner with two boxes next to his right. The boxes are filled with 1 million Guatemalan jungle flies en route to Hawaii in efforts to control a pineapple crop pest, the mealy bug. To his left is a steamer trunk standing on end, with two luggage stickers. He holds a pipe in his right hand. This was taken on the liner, Saint Teresa, in Los Angeles.
