Antoinette Jones (left), wife of lawyer Mattison Boyd Jones, welcomes Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins upon her arrival in Los Angeles for the opening of the first airplane apprentice school at the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. Perkins visited Los Angeles for two days to welcome the new class of 37 junior employees who were to begin the program.

The float was sponsored by the International Association of Machinists, District Lodge 727, and engineers from the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. The float was used in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade in 1946 and featured five women representing one of the "Big Five" nations: the United States, England, France, China, and Russia.

Bar on Tony Cornero's newly refurbished gambling ship, the Bunker Hill, or Lux, Los Angeles, 1946

Description:
Bar on Tony Cornero’s newly refurbished gambling ship, the Bunker Hill (also known as the Lux), which was meant to operate offshore of Los Angeles. After the Bunker Hill’s opening night, however, Cornero and five of his aides were arrested on felony charges of criminal conspiracy to conduct gambling games and serve alcohol without a license. After his arrest, Cornero announced that he was ready to go to the United States Supreme court to keep the Bunker Hill running. Cornero was also “admiral” of the Rex, another gambling vessel which was forced to suspend operations in 1938.

Description:
Test of a "streamlined" traffic plan proposed by street traffic engineer Ralph Dorsey for peak-hour traffic on Wilshire Boulevard. The plan included an off-set center lane and no left turns during peak times, the changes would affect Wilshire Blvd, Flower, Figueroa, and 8th streets. After much debate, the plan was eventually rejected by the City Council.
