In addition to the house, Gloria’s estate includes: a miniature stable for her pony and cart, a miniature wishing well and a slide, swing and sand pile.

Tiger trainer Mabel Stark stands by a cage containing two of her tigers. Stark is referred to as the world's first female tiger trainer. Here, she is at Shrine Auditorium for the annual Shrine Charity Circus. The Shrine Charity Circus is a 10-day event, which features an indoor show by the Polack Bros. Circus. Orphaned and underprivileged children are allowed to visit the circus as their admission is paid by affluent members of the community. The circus also travels to the children's hospital to entertain sick children who can't attend. Proceeds from the circus go to Shrine charitable activities.

A crowd gathers to view the Tupolev ANT-25 flown by Mikhail Gromov, Andrei Yumashev, and Sergei Danilin from Moscow to a field outside San Jacinto, CA. The non-stop flight covered 6700 miles in 62 hours and 12 minutes, smashing the previous record for longest non-stop flight. July 14, 1937.

Writer Mark Linden accused West of failing to provide half of the profits she earned from selling his play to Paramount in order to produce the film. The judge ruled that West did not owe the writer any of the additional money she received as salary for her role as an actress. West was an American actress, playwright, and screenwriter.

Actor Ben Lyon on the witness stand during a trial for 36-year-old war veteran Albert F. Holland. Holland's sanity was questioned after he wrote more than 150 love letters to Lyon's wife, actress Bebe Daniels, and claimed to have married her in Mexico. During the case, Holland ran most of his own defense, including a lengthy cross-examination of Lyon. The jury ultimately found Holland to be insane and committed him to the state hospital.

Taken at grand jury investigation into death of film actress Thelma Todd. Todd was found in the garage of film director West, her business partner and lover, dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Schafer was the manager of a roadside cafe owned by West and Todd. Whitehead was Todd’s personal maid. Todd's death was eventually ruled an accident.

Screenshot from a film used by the prosecution at the murder trial of DeWitt Clinton Cook. The film showed Cook (right) re-enacting his murder of dancer Anya Sosoyeva, who he hit on the head with a 2x4. Cook willingly confessed to the murder, as well as the assaults of two other women, Delia Bogard and Myrtle Wagner. This was the first time sound motion pictures were used during a trial in California history. The trial was also considered very unusual because Cook never denied the murder, personally offer a not guilty plea, or put up any defense. Cook was sentenced to death and executed in the San Quentin gas chamber on January 31, 1941, at age 21

Ward entered a plea of not guilty based on self defense and temporary insanity. He was ultimately set free after many witnesses, including Yukon Jake, attested to Tyke's violent nature.

Boys from financially disadvantaged backgrounds participate in a free summer camp in Griffith Park. The camp, which was organized by Sheriff Biscailuz, lasted hosted groups of 100 boys for 10 days at a time. While at camp, the boys participated in activities such as swimming, fencing, baseball, various hobbies, and a nonsectarian religious program. The camp operated from July 6th to September 4th, 1937.

Johnny Tyke, who was murdered by fellow extra Jerome "Blackjack" Ward in Gower Gulch, the name given to the area near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street where film extras hang out waiting for work. Allegedly, Blackjack shot Tyke with a .45, but many of the hundreds of Gower Gulch extras who came to the trial testified that Tyke had started the fight and was “doped up” at the time. Blackjack entered a plea of not guilty based on self defense and temporary insanity and he was ultimately set free.

Twenty-three horses raced that day, beating out the Kentucky Derby's record of twenty-two starting horses at that time. The $50,000 purse was won by the horse Fairy Hill.

Racing star Rex Mays poses in a "midget" car decorated with Felix the Cat for a race against "midget" car driver Bob Swanson at the Legion Ascot speedway. The day's program consisted of a variety of challenges, with both drivers using "big" cars and "midget" cars during different races. Both drivers were later killed in accidents on the track.

Actor and singer Eddie Cantor, left, and movie producer and mogul Samuel Goldwyn, right. The photo was likely taken in conjunction with a suit brought by Goldwyn against Warner Bros. Pictures, in order to prevent the studio from using dance director and choreographer Busby Berkeley, until Berkeley completed a picture for Goldwyn starring Cantor. Berkeley was under contract to Warner Brothers, but the two studios had an agreement that he would work on two pictures per year for Goldwyn.Cantor testified for Goldwyn in the suit on May 4, 1934.
