Per the negative sleeve caption, this photograph was taken in 1910, the same year that Chester Schmitz was born. He looks considerably older than that, maybe about 5 or 6, in this photograph. The other children also look older than what their age would be in 1910. It is more likely that this image was taken around 1915.
Photograph looking from atop Point Fermin down to where the cliffs meet the ocean. The coastline stretches on an upward diagonal from the lower right to upper left. Cliffs and stairs are at left and the ocean is at right. Stairways and landings wind downward along the cliffs on the left towards the water. A person stands on the landing nearest the ocean and looks out over the ocean to the right. Waves approach the shore at right.
View towards sightseers at the base of scenic desert cliffs in Red Rock Canyon which look like thick columns of rock standing in rows, one on top of the other. Four sightseers are visible next to 4 automobiles and a white tent.
