Shrine banner stretching over Peachtree Street, Atlanta, 1947
- Description:
- Photograph of a banner stretching over Peachtree Street in Atlanta. The camera looks north up Peachtree Street. The side of a building (likely the Candler Building) stands in the foreground along the right edge. A street splitting off of Peachtree Street extends on an upward angle across the mid-ground from left to right. Street car tracks line the street. Peachtree Street enters frame from the left and extends back through center. On the intersection's corner at right, businesses stand and stretch back towards center. Their signage reads, from front to back, "[...] JEWELRY CO.," "LOEW'S GRAND," "PARAMOUNT," and a billboard atop a building reads, "Wesson Oil." Stretching over the street at center is a banner which reads, "SHRINE INDOOR 3 RING CIRCUS MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM NOV. 10 thru 18." Buildings line the left side of Peachtree Street. Signage on these buildings reads, from front to back, "PEACHTREE HATTERS," "[???] GRAND Shop HAMBURGERS HOT DOGS," "Georgia [???]," "Velvet CLUB," and "BUTLERS SHOES." Street car cables crisscross the intersection overhead. Buildings line Peachtree Street as it stretches into the distance. A tall building stands in the background at left and a water tower stands atop a building in the background at center.
