Description:
Photograph of H. H. West and company's car stopped during a lunch break along the roadside just west of Barstow. A road stretches across the foreground on an upward angle from right to left. It appears to incline as it approaches the left. On the far side of the road at center, a car is parked. It is viewed at an angle from the rear and the side, facing left. The trunk of the car is open and suitcases are visible within it. Behind the car, a wood post and wire fence runs parallel to the road.

The car is parked to the side of the road and is viewed at an angle from the side and the rear; it faces towards the left. A woman stands at center by the driver's side of the car and looks down to rummage through a crate hanging from the side of the car. She faces towards the right with her back to the camera. To her right, Harry Schmitz (kneeling) and Wilfrid Cline, Jr. (standing) are in front of the car. Harry Schmitz kneels on the ground in front of and to the left of the front tire. Photograph of H. H. West's Buick and Dave F. Smith's EMF parked in tandem along the aqueduct road by Owens Lake. The dirt road passes through the image on a curve. It enters frame at left, juts out towards center before curving back to the left and disappearing behind the cars and a mound. H. H. West's Buick is parked nearest to the camera and Dave F. Smith's EMF is behind it. They are both viewed at an angle from the front and face left. Someone (Nella West?) sits in the back seat of the Buick and reads a newspaper. Dave and Isabelle Smith sit in the front seat of their EMF and look out towards the right. Someone (Mary A. West?) stands by the right side of the EMF with their back towards the camera. Large rocks lie in the dirt off to the side of the road in the foreground at right. A rocky, earthen mound stands on the left side of the road behind the cars. Silhouetted mountains rise in the distance at right.

Description:
Photograph of a drinking fountain standing along the side of the road. A stone constructed drinking fountain stands in the foreground at left. In front of the fountain's base, a concrete slab extends towards the camera. A pipe runs beneath the slab and water flows from it and into a ditch which stretches towards the camera. Beyond the fountain, a road extends across the mid-ground on a downward angle from right to left. On the far side of the road, a car (presumably H. H. West's Buick) is parked on the opposite roadside. It sits right-of-center and is viewed from the side, facing left. Beyond the car, trees cover hillsides that occupy the background.

The Wests pose for a photograph near their car that is pulled off the side of the road and parked in front of a barn. Mary A. West holds a package in her arm and leans against the open door of the car. Minnie and Elizabeth west sit in the tonneau and turn their heads towards the camera. Minnie sits closest to the camera and Elizabeth sits closest to the barn. Well in front of the car, Frances West stands in the middle of the dirt road and looks towards the camera while she holds something in her hands. The car is oriented so that the left side and the back of the car are visible to the camera. Supplies hang strapped to the back of the car. A large barn (partial view) stands behind the car on the right. The roof slants downward from the right corner towards the center of the image.
