George Zobelein was an early settler of Los Angeles and established his own beer brewing company in the city, first Maier & Zolbein in 1882, then Los Angeles Brewing Co. in 1907. His 350 acre home on S. Figueroa and 38th Streets was known for its lush flora.
The date on the negative sleeve indicates the photo may have been taken in 1931. On the same occasion, Zobelein is photographed reading an issue of the Times from February 7, 1929, which is when the photograph was more likely taken.
