Float sponsored by the Sherman Institute, an off-reservation boarding school for Native American students. Now called the Sherman Indian High School, it opened in 1892 as the Perris Indian School and later changed its name to the Sherman Institute. On the right are four Native American students beside a decorative tepee. On the left are four Native American students dressed to represent trades taught at the school, with one young woman dressed as a nurse and one young man wearing a smock. Students identified in the newspaper article include Charles Bautista, Adelia Brown, Pearl Beuis, Samuel Cachora, Adolph Sambo Pahvitse, Elsie Sasalque, and Jose Tajete. The float is at the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard.
