The United Service Clubs Rose Parade theme float was "Schooldays." It featured a schoolhouse on a hill, with an arbor and a well. Those riding on the float were; Beth MacLeod, 12; Betty Goodman, 12; Phyllis Newcomer, 12; Jeannette Selph, 14; and Jimmy McNary, 7.
When descending a hill on Colorado Boulevard, Dr. Ross Company’s float sped down due to failed brakes. As it gathered momentum, the driver swerved around Eagle Rock’s entry titled "The Wizard of Oz." The crowd eventually caught the runaway float and slowed it down. Several people were injured from where the ponies guiding the float went into the crowd.
Men and boys watching the Rose Parade from the tile roof of the Hupmobile dealer building on W. Colorado Blvd., probably between St. John Ave. and Pasadena Ave. (later the area of a freeway underpass). The Hupp Automobile logo is on the front of the building.
