A large crowd gathers as Commander Richard E. Byrd arrives to board the Norwegian ship, C. A. Larsen. The camera looks down towards the wharf from a deck up on the ship. The side of the ship stretches along the right edge. Spectators crowd the wharf below and to the left of it. In the near distance at center, there is a clearing among the crowd. At the center of the clearing, Commander Byrd tips his cap to the crowd as he and another man pass through it. Commander Byrd's dog, Igloo, trails at his owner's feet. A car is parked behind and to the right of him. Beyond the wharf, the harbor's waters stretch into the distance at right.
