Description:: The "A Sea of Sand" float was preceded by 4 thoroughbred Arabian horses and two camels, "ships of the desert." In addition to its title, the float also bears the floral sign "The Dessert Playground." A woman in a bathing suit stands on the float, braving the rain. The float was entered by the city of Palm Springs. The float is seen is seen passing the Goodhue Flagpole in the center of the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd.

The float features a carriage lead by dragons with Lili Arikawa seated on a throne as the empress with 2 girls seated below her, hanging baskets and lanterns, and with 'Long Beach' written on top.
