Officer Frank E. Walker provides his signature on a document with Deputy District Attorney Howard R. Hinshaw present. This may be related to a shooting where Mr. Walker's wife was shot and killed by Gladys Carter, wife of Deputy Sheriff Archie Carter. Mrs. Walker lived with the deputy and his wife.

Description:
A crowd gathers to view the Tupolev ANT-25 flown by Mikhail Gromov, Andrei Yumashev, and Sergei Danilin from Moscow to a field outside San Jacinto, CA. The non-stop flight covered 6700 miles in 62 hours and 12 minutes, smashing the previous record for longest non-stop flight. July 14, 1937.

Magnin, and Bishop Bertrand Stevens in the luncheon room at the Biltmore Hotel where 400 leading Californians had gathered to discuss the campaign to raise funds for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Mr. Mayer spoke at the meeting saying, "this battle is not for greed or power, but for human good without distinction of race or creed" and acknowledged the presence of Rabbi Magnin and Bishop Stevens (among others) as a sign that we live in a "land where men of different faiths combine to aid humanity"

Screenshot from a film used by the prosecution at the murder trial of DeWitt Clinton Cook. The film showed Cook (right) re-enacting his murder of dancer Anya Sosoyeva, who he hit on the head with a 2x4. Cook willingly confessed to the murder, as well as the assaults of two other women, Delia Bogard and Myrtle Wagner. This was the first time sound motion pictures were used during a trial in California history. The trial was also considered very unusual because Cook never denied the murder, personally offer a not guilty plea, or put up any defense. Cook was sentenced to death and executed in the San Quentin gas chamber on January 31, 1941, at age 21

On this day, over 50,000 spectators wagered a total of $789,159 on the eight races held, toppling the previous records of 40,000 people and $599,009 wagered. Big winners of the day were horse He Did, who won the feature race by more than a length and Bing Crosby's horse High Strike, who won his sixth straight race.

Spectators watch as a fireman hoses down flames from a forest fire in Glendale's Verdugo Woodlands and Rossmoyne sections. 2500 acres burned but the firemen were able to keep the blaze from damaging any of the nearby homes. Firemen battled the flames for ten hours and dealt with high winds, which made the situation more dangerous

Kynette can be seen wearing eyeglasses. Captain of Police Earle E. Kynette was charged with conspiracy to commit murder after the vehicle of Harry J. Raymond was bombed on January 14, 1938. Kynette was in charge of a special police intelligence unit that had been conducting surveillance on Raymond’s home from a nearby bungalow. Before the car bombing, Raymond had been conducting investigative work on Mayor Shaw and his possible connections with illegal gambling. Two other officers, Fred Browne and Roy J. Allen, connected with the intelligence unit were also charged with conspiracy to commit murder. However, Fred Browne was eventually acquitted. Kynette and Allen were both found guilty.
