Harlan Bunker, father of murder victim Marilyn Bunker, provides witness testimony in court. Marilyn was shot by 17-year-old Donald Rogers, also known as Donald Fehrenschild, while she was playing on a hill with her little brother and other children. Rogers shot at the children from the upstairs window of his home. However, Rogers insisted that he was trying to shoot doves he had seen on the hillside.

Description:
Miss Cherrie Armour, daughter of an oil company executive, who faced many legal woes in 1940. In January she went to court to try to stop her ex-husband James Monroe Jefferson from reducing her alimony payments. In September she was sentenced to a year in county jail and forced to pay a settlement to Jean and Josephine Rose for injuring them in a hit-and-run car accident, during which Armour was under the influence of alcohol.

Description:
A woman stands on debris from a landslide that began in Elysian Park. The landslide started near the top of Buena Vista Peak as a small crack in the earth. The crack began separating at a rate of about half an inch every 24 hours, then became a meandering zig-zag, and finally a landslide on November 26, 1937. During the landslide 1,500,000 tons of loose rock and dirt tumbled down the hill and onto a 600 foot stretch of Riverside Drive. The disaster caused rerouting of traffic and attracted thousands of spectators. Because the initial crack was identified early, damage and injuries were largely avoided

Inglewood Boy Scout Albert Portune testifies for the court in the murders of children Jeanette Stevens (age 8), Melba Everett (age 9), and Madeline Everett (age 6). Portune was one of four scouts who discovered the bodies of the three girls in the Baldwin Park ravine; the four were part of a larger search group comprised of Boy Scouts. August 12, 1937.

Man stands in front of the wreckage of Berth 153, a terminal in L.A. Harbor that was destroyed when the Markay, an oil tanker owned by the Keystone Tankship Corp., exploded in the wee hours of the morning. The fire was fed by leaking gasoline and threatened at least five terminals in the harbor. At least 22 were injured and 9, possibly 12, people were killed. Damage was estimated at $10,000,000.

Description:
Dr. George K. Dazey and his third wife, Dorcas Dazey, at the trial in which Dr. Dazey is accused of murdering his second wife, actress Doris S. Dazey, in 1935. Doris Dazey's death was originally believed to be suicide by monoxide poisoning. However, witnesses claimed that Dr. Dazey had been boasting about committing the "perfect crime" and a night watchman testified to witnessing Dazey carry a woman's body from the house to the garage on the night of the murder. Other factors complicating the trial were the paternity of Doris and George Dazey's child, Doris Dazey's possible mental illness, and false testimonies from some of the witnesses. Dr. Dazey was ultimately acquitted of the crime.

Helen Wright, three-year-old daughter of Paul A. Wright, who is accused of the double murder of his wife Evelyn and best friend, John Kimmel. Wright confessed to shooting the pair after finding them in an embrace in his home, he was eventually let off on an insanity plea. Wright's brother, Dr. Herbert Wright, sought custody of Helen and planned to take her back to his home in Cleveland. Paul Wright agreed that it would be best for his daughter to be removed from the aftermath of the tragedy and it was said that he was more concerned about the well-being of Helen, than his own welfare.

Coroner's jury at the inquest for Paul A. Wright. Wright is accused of the murder of his wife, Evelyn, and best friend, John Kimmel. Wright confessed to shooting the pair in a fit of "white hot rage" after finding them in an embrace in his home. After the inquest, complaints were signed against Wright for the two deaths. A trial, called the "white flame" trial by the press, followed in which Wright was eventually let off on an insanity plea, thanks to his lawyer Jerry Giesler.
