Description:: Fire fighters respond to a fire at the Goodwill Industries premises in the Baker Block building. Remarkably, 400 crippled and elderly men and women, as well as 20 children in the nursery, escaped unharmed. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading throught the entire building, which had been in use since 1868. A short circuit in the electrical department on the ground floor was suspected to be the cause of the fire.

Description:: Fire fighters working to save a terminal in the L.A. Harbor which was threatened by flames when the Markay, an oil tanker owned by the Keystone Tankship Corp., exploded in the wee hours of the morning. The fire was fed by leaking gasoline and threatened at least five terminals in the harbor. At least 22 were injured and 9, possibly 12, people were killed. Damage was estimated at $10,000,000.
