Historical marker on the side of the Old South Meeting House. The marker reads, "Old South Meeting House. Built in 1729. Here were held the town-meetings that ushered in the Revolution. Here Samuel Adams James Otis and Joseph Warren exhorted. Here the men of Boston proved themselves independent courageous freemen worthy to raise issues which were to concern the liberty and happiness of millions yet unborn."

Description:
A poorly-lit and out-of-focus photograph of the Holy Name Society convention's parade marching along a Boston street, as viewed from the West's hotel. The parade is viewed from an elevated perspective. The hotel's wall stretches vertically along the right edge in the foreground. A rail from the wall extends on an angle towards camera. Below, the parade marches through the street in the distance at left and center. The street passes through the image on an upward angle from the lower left corner to the right, disappearing behind the hotel wall. Large crowds of spectators line both sides of the street. At center, a few flag bearers march down the street. Other people appear to march behind them at right. Buildings on the opposite side of the street line the background. Four punched holes line the top edge at left.

At center, the caretaker and Mertie West stand one tier below camera and 3 above street-level. Both pause their conversation and look to the camera. The caretaker rests a hand on a broom standing in front of him. A dustpan sits on the landing in front of Mertie. Behind them, a wrought-iron fence enters frame at left, lining the park's edge, and stops at center where it meets the base of the stairs. Beyond the fence and sidewalk, Monument Square runs parallel to the park's edge. Row houses line the far side of the street in the background.

Left-of-center, a wagon being pulled by 2 horses is captured in motion traveling through the street. It is viewed at an angle from the rear and the right side; it travels away from camera to the right. The bed of the cart is lined by 2 long benches that face each other. A driver sits ahead of the benches with his back to camera. Two horses, trotting side-by-side at center, pull the cart; one is obscured by the other. Along the near street curb at right, a sign stands. It reads, "NO STANDING POLICE ORDER." Buildings and trees stand across the background.

In the near distance, just left-of-center, a police officer stands in a box that sits in the middle of the intersection. The policeman wears white gloves on his hands and raises his right arm to signal a stop. He faces towards the right. The box that surrounds him rises up to waist-height. A "NO LEFT TURN" sign is posted on the left side of the box and a small poster is posted on the right side. Behind and to the right of the police officer, a street corner is visible.
