Seven-year-old Virginia testified to the court that after witnessing her mother argue with her father's alleged mistress 20-year-old Frances Walker, Gladys Carter shot Frances. Other witnesses in the trial were neighbor Annie Olson, Captain Elmer C. Marty, and Frank L. Walker, father of the victim.
