Crowd watching a baseball game at Wrigley Field in South Los Angeles. Los Angeles's Wrigley Field was built in 1925 and torn down in 1966. It was host to minor league baseball teams and home of the Los Angeles Angeles. The field is named after the same Wrigley as Wrigley Field in Chicago, but it actually received the name first and had more on-site parking than Chicago's field does now.

Euclide Allard, 66, demonstrating how he was tied up by a burglar on his hotel room floor and robbed of $6950, Los Angeles, February 16, 1940

Description:
66-year-old sportsman Euclide Allard demonstrating how he was tied up by a burglar in his hotel room. Allard, in town from Massachusetts, was in his room working on race-horse charts when he heard a knock at the door. Upon answering, a “tough looking” man pressed a revolver into Allard’s stomach and demanded to know where he kept his money. The burglar then tied up Allard with twine and took $6950 from Allard’s coat pocket. Allard said that most of the stolen money had been won at the horse races and it appeared that the burglar had seen Allard at the track and followed him back to the hotel.

Howard Jones, USC football coach from 1925-1940, bowling. Jones led the University of Southern California Trojans to four Rose Bowls, winning all of them. Jones also coached at Syracuse, Yale, Ohio State, University of Iowa, and Duke. He also won the Rose Bowl with Yale. Jones was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951.Photo was probably put in the wrong sleeve as it doesn't appear to relate to the WPA Garden Project

Lillian Bierman in court over dispute with her husband Carroll Bierman, Kentucky Derby winning jockey, Los Angeles, September 9, 1940

Description:
Mrs. Lillian M. Bierman, 19, in Superior Court settling a dispute with her husband Carroll Bierman, the year’s Kentucky Derby winning jockey. The Biermans had been separated for about 8 months, during which Mrs. Bierman received $300 a month from Mr. Bierman for separate maintenance. Mrs. Bierman, who suffers from a rare heart ailment, filed for this arrangement on the ground of cruelty. The settlement for which she is currently in court will give Mrs. Bierman $3750 cash and a divorce, rather than the $300/month.
